7 rebels eliminated, Taliban repulsed in Faryab
MAIMANA (Pajhwok): Seven insurgents have been killed and 11 others wounded during a clash in the northern Faryab province, officials said on Friday.
Nearly 300 Taliban fighters surrounded the headquarters of Daulatabad district over the past three days, but Afghan security personnel on Thursday reached for support and launched offensive against Taliban, the provincial police chief, Col. Syed Aqa Andarabi, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
Taliban escaped from the area after the death of their seven fighters and injuring of 11 others, he said. A car and three motorbikes of Taliban were burnt during the gun battle and four other motorcycles were seized by security personnel, he said.
However, a member of provincial council, Abdul Ahad Elbaik, said a civilian car was also damaged and its driver was injured in a roadside bombing in the area.
An official, who wished anonymity, said a military vehicle was damaged in a roadside bomb explosion and Taliban later set afire the vehicle. Taliban has so far issued no comment regarding the operation.
