2 prisoners escape from Samangan jail, 1 recaptured
AIBAK (Pajhwok): Three prisoners on Saturday night escaped from the central prison in northern Samangan province, but one of them was recaptured, officials said on Sunday.
Provincial police chief Maj. Gen. Mohammad Baqir Massoud told Pajhwok Afghan News the three prisoners --- Mohammad Zahir, Nimatullah and Nasir Ahmad --- had cut the barbed wire on Saturday night and fled from the jail.
But Zahir was recaptured by a police patrol about 100-metre away from the prison, but the two others were able to flee taking advantage of the darkness at night.
The governor’s spokesman, Mohammad Siddiue Azizi, said the three inmates had been sentenced to 15 and 18 years in jail on murder charges.
