Farmers, agro-product processers to get $6m credit: Zamir
A memorandum of understanding (MoU) to the effect was signed among Minister of AgricultureAsadullah Zamir, Afghan Rural Finance Company (ARFC)CEO Hashmat Sayar Amarkhel and First Microfinance Bank (FMFB) Chief Financial Officer Faburama Ceesay.
Zamir said during the signing ceremony the money would be given in credit to growers, small entrepreneurs, producers and processers of agricultural products through the two organisations by the end of current solar year (till March 20).
Some of the money would be directly given to 3000 farmers by the FMFB and the rest spent on purchasing agricultural equipment and machinery by the ARFC. The assistance has been provided by the Agricultural Development Fund (ADF) of the USAID.
Since 2010, with the cooperation of ADF, the ministry has extended loans worth more than 4.4 billion afghanis to 35,000 famers and agriculturists in 33 provinces of the country, Zamir said.
