BAMYAN CITY (Pajhwok): The spring plantation drive has been started under the slogan “every Bamyan resident should plant two saplings” in the central province of Bamyan.

As many as 27,000 saplings will be planted as part of the tree plantation campaign in the historic province, also a tourist destination, said Governor Mohammad Tahir Zuhair.

He told Pajhwok Afghan News greenery could positively impact tourism in Bamyan and his administration was planning to plant 27,000 fruit and non-fruit plants. The governor said it was expected that farmers in rural areas would also plant 10,000 saplings this year.

During the plantation drive, 5000 saplings were planted in Bamyan City on Monday and the process would be expanded to districts in near future, according to the governor.

Bamyan Mayor Eng. Mohammad Aman said creating green areas had importance for Bamyan and therefore the municipality had started the tree plantation campaign with the slogan “Every Bamyan resident should to plant two saplings” one for his own and another for the country.

“Now adays, the wood technology is mostly used in many spheres of life and from economic point of view, it provides work opportunities for people. So we should take steps to plant more saplings to have a green country in future and good income,” he said.
