People council’s head for Shindand district gunned down
HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): The head of the people’s council for the Shindand district of western Herat provincewas shot dead by unidentified gunmen in on Wednesday.
Mohammad Arif, alias Gudamdar, was killed by unidentified gunmen around noon in Herat City, the governor’s spokesman, Jilani Farhad, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
The victim’s 16-year-old son and another young man were injured in the attack, he said, without blaming anyone for the target killing.
Meanwhile, Zonal Hospitalspokesman Mohammad Rafiq said the body of Gudamdar and two injured people were evacuated to hospital at 12:30pm. The injured were in stable condition, he added.
However, police spokesman Abdul Rauf Ahmadi said Gudamdar -- recently elected as head of the council -- was shot injured by two motorcyclists in the Jakan area of Herat City.
The assailants managed to flee the scene, but police had launched a manhunt for the killers, he said.
