Football tournament kicks off in Lashkargah
LAKHARGAH (Pajhwok): A 10-day football tournament aimed at uniting tribes was launched in southern Helmand province, an official said on Friday.
Five football teams from Kandahar, Zabul, Farah, Nimroz and Helmand are taking part in the event that kicked off on Friday at the Karzai Stadium, the provincial Olympic committee head, Ghulam Ghaws Dawari told Pajhwok Afghan News.
A national trader, Haroon Popal sponsored the games and has provided transportation and accommodation facilities for the players from other provinces, he said adding all the teams would get peace and unity messages through participation in the games.
Farhad Dawari, a representative of Haroon Dawari said the purpose of the tournament was to provide the youths with an opportunity of entertainment and prevent them from using drugs ro being involved in war.
