2 killed, 17 rescued from kidnappers in Herat
HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): Two people have been killed and six others wounded in a militant attack while 17 individuals have been rescued from kidnappers in western Herat province, an official said Saturday.
Zonal Hospital Director Mohammad Rafiq Sherzaiconfirmed to Pajhwok Afghan News receiving six people injured in an armed attack in the Shindad district of the province. The injured include a 55 years old woman and men between 18 and 25.
Meanwhile, Herat police spokesman Abdur Rauf Ahmadisaid a number of gunmen stormed the house of a militant commander in the district, killing two people and wounding four others.
He added the dead included Taliban commander Suleman and his associate named Obaidullah. The attack resulted from a personal enmity between rebel commanders.
In a separate incident, Ahmadi said, police rescued 17 people kidnapped by unidentified gunmen in the RubatPai area of Zinda Jan district on Friday.
The men had gone to the area for sightseeing when kidnapped. But all of them were rescued safely after an armed clash between security forces and kidnappers, Ahmadi added.
