Ghani’s choices for interior minister, AG win trust votes

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Interior minister-designate Taj Mohammad Jahid and the nominee for attorney-general received votes of confidence from the Wolesi Jirgainfo-icon, or lower house of the parliament, on Saturday.

Along with nominee for Supreme Court member Mohammad Zaman Sangari, they had been introduced to the assembly for votes of confidence on April 4.In today’s session, 225 MPs were present and thus each of the candidates needed at least 113 votes for confirmation.

Jahid, who was nominated after Noorul Haq Ulumi tendered his resignations interior minister, bagged 190 ballots. AG-designate Mohammad Farid Hamidi won 200 votes.

Hamidi has 15-year experience, having received a bachelor’s degree in criminal science from the Police Academy.The AG-designate, a bachelor of political science from Kabul University, also holds a master’s in criminal law from Azad Islamic University.

Similarly, Lt. Gen. Jahid has 22 years military experience, having done his bachelor from the Military University. He previously served as 207th Zafar Military Corps commander in western Herat province.

Sangari has done his bachelor in Sharia Law from Kabul University. He has held high judicial positions, including investigation chief and head of anti-narcotics court.

The Ministry of Defence and the National Directorate of Security (NDS), the Afghan spy agency, have been under acting officials for a year and four months respectively.
