25 rebels including drug traffickers killed in Kandahar
KANDAHAR CITY (Pajhwok): At least 25 insurgents, including some drug traffickers, have been killed during an operation in Maiwand district of southern Kandahar province, officials said on Sunday.
Samim Khpalwak, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News the operation by Afghan forces was conducted in Raig area that neighbours Sangin district in Maiwand district.
He said the Afghan forces had foreign forces’ air support and they killed at least 25 insurgents during the operation launched on Saturday night.
Maiwand district chief, Haji Obaidullah, said the slain militants included some drug traffickers who wanted to smuggle narcotics with the help of rebels. The operation was still ongoing, he added.
There has been no word from insurgents about the operation.
