2 students killed, 3 injured as mortar shell hits Laghman school
JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Two schoolchildren were killed and three others injured when a mortar shell hit a school in eastern Laghman province on Tuesday, an official said.
A provincial police official, 2nd Lt. Shakir, told Pajhwok Afghan News the mortar shell fired by Taliban militants hit the Maulvi Habib Rahman School in Mehtarlam, the provincial capital, at around 11am.
Two children were killed and three others injured in the incident, he said, adding the militants attacked a security post in Basram area but some mortar shells landed near the school.
Laghman Public Health Director Dr. Attaullah Niazi confirmed receiving the casualties. He said the ages of the children injured were between eight and 10 years. No groups so far claimed responsibility for the attack.
