9 Taliban eliminated as attacks on 3 Kunar districts repelled
ASADABAD (Pajhwok): Police have pushed back group attacks by Taliban in three districts of eastern Kunar province, killing nine assailants and wounding six others, an official claimed on Wednesday.
Provincial police chief, Brig. Gen. Abdul Habib Syedkheli, told Pajhwok Afghan News the Taliban staged attacks in the Marawara, Sarkano and Shegal districts Tuesday night.
One police and a civilian were wounded in clashes, while search for the militants was underway in the areas, lying close to the border with Pakistan’s tribal region of Bajaur, he said.
Public Health Director Dr. Ihsanullah Fazli said five injured people, including two security personnel, had been evacuated to the hospital.
Zabihullah Mujahid, the Taliban’s spokesman, claimed the group’s fighters had captured check-posts and inflicted heavy casualties on security forces.
