QCG meeting on reviewing hurdles to peace postponed
KABUL (Pajhwok): A meeting of the Quadrilateral Coordination Group (QCG), planned in Islamabad to discuss hurdles to Afghan peace efforts, has been postponed, a Pakistani newspaper reported on Wednesday.
A diplomatic source was quoted as saying the four-nation meeting was slated for the last weekend in the Pakistani capital,. However, it had to be postponed after Afghanistan expressed its inability to attend.
Scheduled for Saturday, the meeting was to reassess the situation after Taliban’s refusal to enter peace negotiations with the Afghan government, the daily said.
Intimation regarding the postponement of the QCG session was conveyed on Friday to the United States and China. Afghanistan was reportedly not ready to participate in the meeting.
But US Special Representative Richard Olson pushed ahead with his visit to Islamabad. He was already visiting Afghanistan with US Secretary of State John Kerry.
Besides calling on Gen Raheel Sharif on Tuesday, Ambassador Olson also met Foreign Secretary Aizaz Chaudhry. Issues related to QCG and the efforts made so far to revive the peace dialogue came up for discussion.
