2nd polio case detected in Kunar
ASADABAD (Pajhwok): A second polio case has been detected in eastern Kunar province, the public health director said on Saturday.
Dr. Ihsanullah Fazli told Pajhwok Afghan News the one-year-old child, son of Abdul Wali, belonged to Wand village of Shultan area in Shaigal district was infected with the virus. It was the second polio case to be detected in Kunar and the third nationwide, he added.
Over the past four years, polio vaccination campaign could not be implemented in the Shaigal district due to Taliban’s opposition, a reason he cited behind the infection.
The director said anti-polio campaigns each time faced problems in eight districts, depriving some 8,500 children from polio drops.
Fazli said 20 polio cases were registered nationwide last year, when two cases surfaced in Kunar.
