11 government employees referred to prosecution office
NIELI (Pajhwok): Eleven government employees, including four officers, have been referred to prosecutors on charges of stealing millions of afghanis from the education department, an official said on Sunday.
An accounts clerk of the education department was awarded 10 years imprisonment for embezzling more than 6 million afs, said a judge of urban court, Abu Bakar Siddique.
During investigation,an amount of more than 12 million afs was found missing from the department’s account. There was documentary proof of how the money was spent, he said.
Education Director Mohammad Ali Wasiq, Finance Manager Syed Mustafa Moosavi, Revenue Officer Syed Zamin, Revenue Control Manager Syed Naeem Moosavi and seven other employees of education and revenue departments were referred to the prosecution office for interrogation.
Meanwhile, Wasiq confirmed he had been asked to appear for integrations, saying that the judiciary department had the right to interrogate the officials in such cases to clarify the accounts situation and fix responsibility.
However, the director refused to say anything about his involvement in the misappropriation of funds of the department.
