12 passengers including Heratis swept away by Badghis floods
QALA-I-NAW (Pajhwok): A dozen passengers, including six residents of Herat province,died as the vehicle theywere travelling in flipped over as a result of floods in northern Badghis province, an official said on Sunday.
The incident took place on Saturday afternoonin the Sang-i-Atash area of Maqur district, a member of provincial council, Mohammad Farid Akhizai, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
He said the dead carried no identity cards, but they embarked the vehicle in Sang-i-Atash Bazaar. They reportedly told people about their plan to travel to BalaMurghab district to harvest poppy pods.
Of the dozen bodies brought to Qala-i-Naw Civil Hospital, when six were identified and, were residents of Herat. The identities of the rest of six people were yet to be ascertained, Dr. Abdul Latif Rostaeesaid.
Separately, five people drowned in floods on Saturday in the Hazrat Sultan and Dara-i-Sauf Payeen districts of Samangan province, where crops were also washed away.The victims including three children and two men were yet to be found.
