MAZIR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): Some 5,000 students, including girls, took part in a nationwide “Education Star” contest kicked off in northern Balkh province on Wednesday, organizers said.
The contest being conducted by Najam Society would be joined by school students in 25 other provinces.
Abdul Hakim Ulfat, the Najam Society in-charge in Balkh, told Pajhwok Afghan News the competition was being conducted in 25 provinces under the title “Education Star” among school students.
He said 5,000 students (boys and girls) from 70 schools in Balkh province appeared in the competition, marking the launch of the contest.
Ulfat said the students took an exam and the winner would be named as “Education Star” who would qualify for the national level contest.
A Khana-i-Noor private school student; Hajira, who participated in the contest, said she took part in the contest to show her ability.
“Conducting such contests and exams increase people’s interest in reading,” she said and hoped to become the Education Star.
Ulfat said the contest was aimed to encourage students and spread the value of education.
The contest will be organized in 25 other provinces this month. The provincial winner would then participate in the national level contest with other winners from provinces in a second round to select the Education Star of the country, he added.
