Tehran governor denounces minor Afghan girl’s murder
KABUL (Pajhwok): The governor of Tehran on Wednesday voiced his deep condolences over the death of a six-year-old Afghan girl, an Iranian news agency reported.
IRNA quoted Governor Hossein Hashemias saying the news of the tragic death of Setayesh Quraishi had deeply grieved him and millions of other Iranians.
The minor girl was abducted in the Varamin town near Tehran on April 9 by a 17-year-old Iranian boy. She was sexually abused before being killed.
As her killing is being investigated and autopsy results are expected to be released this week, many Afghans and Iranians have roundly condemned the crime as outrageous.
On her Facebook account, Iranian Vice President Shahindokht Mowlaverdi denounced the killing as a "despicable murder" and said there would be a "punishment appropriate to the magnitude of the horrific crime."
Hussain Naghavi Hussaini, a local public representative, promised the killer would be dealt with "according to the laws of the Islamic republic."
