Notorious Taliban commander killed in Takhar clash
TALQAN (Pajhwok): Taliban’s deputy district chief Mullah Hassan -- also known as Abu Bakar -- has been killed along with a bodyguard during a clash in the Khwaja Bahauddin district of northern Takhar province, an official said on Monday.
Police officer Col. Abdul Saboor Saber, who led the Yangi Kala operation, told Pajhwok Afghan News the insurgents attacked security posts on Sunday afternoon. However, the assault was repulsed.
Security forces did not suffer casualties while the Taliban were driven from the area. He claimed security personnel had control of the locality.
Nizamuddin a, resident of the area, said Mullah Hassan was among the notorious Taliban commanders who led attacks on different targets.
He added the insurgents were still in control of some districts and were striving to capture more areas.
Meanwhile, the Taliban started their operations in Darqad, Ishkamish, Khwaja Gharand Khwaja Bahauddin villages.
Provincial official said the fighters had suffered a lot in recent clashes, but the Taliban have not yet commented on claims about their casualties.
