Stringent security in place as Ghani addresses parliament
KABUL (Pajhwok): Ahead of President Ashraf Ghani’s address to the joint sitting of parliament on the current security situation in the country later on Monday, stringent security measures have been put in place.
Deputy presidential spokesman Shah Hussain Murtazawi told Pajhwok Afghan News Ghani would speak on important issues facing Afghanistan in his speech to the joint sitting.
Afghan forces have taken special security measures in Kabul, particularly around the parliament building and nearby areas. Murtazawi said lawmakers would be taken into confidence on how to stabilise the situation.
The meeting comes weeks after efforts for the resumption of talks between the Afghan government and the Taliban, including quadrilateral meetings among Afghanistan, Pakistan, the US and China, failed to come to fruition.
As the weather gets warmer, militants have stepped up attacks and the security situation has worsened in Kabul and other parts of the country.
