Stop giving privilege to Pakistan in Afghan peace bid, says Ex-MPTA chairman

Stop giving privilege to Pakistan in Afghan peace bid, says Ex-MPTA chairman

Apr 27, 2016 - 20:36

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Farooq Azam, the former chairman of Movement for Peaceful Transformation of Afghanistaninfo-icon (MPTA), on Wednesday called on both government and militants to choose peace instead of war, saying it would be better to accept each other, instead of giving privileges to Pakistaninfo-icon.

While addressing the 24th anniversary of Mujahiddin Victory at Presidential Palace Azam said: “ for the sack of God, trust on your own nation and intend to bring peace in the country," we support you.

In 1978, the former Soviet Union-backed People’s Democratic Party of Afghanistan (PDPA), which had sympathisers in the Afghan military, dethroned President Daud Khan in a bloody coup. He was killed in the PDPA-led coup on April, 27, 1978 along with his family members.  But a majority of Afghans did not accept the PDPA’s rule and soon uprisings began against the communist party.

On April 27, 1992, Mujhideen entered Kabul and took over from Russia-backed Afghan president Dr. Najibullah. Since the collapse of Dr. Najibullah’s government, the victory has been celebrated in Kabul and other provinces of the country.

“I have international experience in peace. In response of my advice to Karzai during his rule, he had said I don’t talk with Talibaninfo-icon because they are the puppets of Pakistan, so I have to talk with Pakistan. Then I replied Taliban also say that you (Karzai) is the puppet of US, so it mean the fate of Afghanistan will be handed over to US and Pakistan….. Instead of referring to Pakistan, it will be better to refer to our own nation. We have Ulemas and honored people, so trust on them and let the people to mediate,” he said.

“Taliban did not take lesson from communist and Mujahiddin eras and established Mullahinfo-icon’s rule government and handed over positions to unqualified individuals. The ministers of public healthinfo-icon, agricultureinfo-icon and other ministries were Mullahs,” he criticized on Taliban government.

“After the collapse of Taliban government, Taliban were waiting to be allowed to return their homes, but Karzai didn’t let them come. Karzai also acknowledged that they didn’t allowed Taliban to come. Sixteen Taliban officials told Khalid Pashtuninfo-icon, we don’t want positions but only allow us to come from Pakistan, but when some of them reached to the country, they were sent to Bagram and Guantanamo prisons,” he said while showed his disapproval with Karzai’s government regarding the peace talks.

In the past 15 years, Pashtuns were victimized through NATOinfo-icon forces and their children were deprived of educationinfo-icon during the war imposed on Pashtuns, he said. “Up to 6500 students from Daikundi while 2100 students from Kandahar participated in the Kankor exam or university entry test this year. Pashtun is not involved in the government and the injustice can’t be tolerated.”

“We all know that who supports whom, but what should we do regarding peace. We should strengthen our military forces, but remember country could not tolerate war anymore and the system could not be protected by war. Keep in mind to end war,” he said adding “those you didn’t allow them to come yesterday, they are now a power.”

While insisting on peace, he said if it is necessary to amend national constitution for the sack of peace, it had to be amended, because it has already needed to be amended. If peace could come by dividing positions, it should also be done, because Afghans could not tolerate war anymore, he concluded.
