17 insurgents eliminated in Kapisa, Logar provinces

Apr 28, 2016 - 15:26

MAHMUD RAQI/PUL-I-ALAM (Pajhwok): At least 17 insurgents have been killed in separate incidents in central Kapisa and Logar provinces, officials said on Thursday.

The 201st Selab Military Corps spokesman, Maj. Shirin Aqa, told Pajhwok Afghan News the fighters attacked an Afghan National Army (ANA) security check-post in Tagab district of Kapisa in the morning.

He said at least six insurgents were killed in retaliatory fire by ANA soldiers and their dead corpses were still lying at the scene. An ANA soldier also suffered injuries in the clash, added Aqa.

A resident of the area, Habibullah, said the checkpoint was set ablaze, so the troops might have suffered casualties. The clash lasting two hours left several militants dead and wounded.

Elsewhere, a dozen insurgents were killed in two separate incidents in central Logar province, the gubernatorial spokesman said.

Saleem Saleh told Pajhwok the special security forces on Wednesday night conducted an operation in Barak-i-Barak district. At least nine fighters, including a commander, were killed and tenth one wounded during the operation..

He identified the slain commander as Talabuddin and said the security forces recovered weapons.

Separately, two Talibaninfo-icon fighters were killed by their own explosives in Al Timor locality of Kharwar district. There has been no word yet from the insurgent regarding the explosion.
