Poultry farms established for families of Kunduz war victims
KUNDUZ CITY (Pajhwok): Family members of war victims have been receiving training in poultry farming and poultry equipment in northern Kunduz province, an official said.
Poultry farms have been established for families of war victims in Kunduz, a project financially supported by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and implemented by the United Nations Mine Action Centre for Afghanistan (UNMACA).
Abdul Khalil Waziri, in-charge of disabled and social centres in Kunduz, told Pajhwok Afghan News families who were affected as a result of the fall of Kunduz City into Taliban hands especially those whose family members were killed or wounded were being trained in poultry farming and equipment.
“In the first phase, 55 persons received training and each one was given egg laying hens and roosters besides eating and drinking pots. Each trainee received 50 kilos of chicken eating seeds, windows and doors for chicken-coops. In the second phase, another 20 persons benefitted from the project.”
Waziri said the project had not yet finished and small poultry farms would be constructed for all the war victims soon.
Families, who benefitted from the plan, said the assistance was not enough to help them cope with all expenses and issues, but would resolve some of their financial problems.
Faizuddin, a resident of Kunduz who received one month training in poultry farming, said “after the training, 25 chickens, drinking and eating pots, a bag of seeds, doors and windows for coops and vaccination medicine were given to me.”
Abdul Wadood, who lost a family member in the conflict in Kunduz, praised the assistance and said it would help resolve his family’s financial issues to some extent.
Fawzia Yaftali, a member of the provincial council, said war victims especially who lost members were psychologically ruined and they needed such assistance.
