Fighting extremism a priority, says Osmani
KABUL (Pajhwok): Hajj and Religious Affairs Minister Faiz Mohammad Osmani on Tuesday said tackling violent extremism was one of his ministry’s priorities, saying Afghan security forces were trying to identify elements promoting the scourge.
Osmani told a press conference here although religious scholars were trying to continue their struggle against extremism, still some people campaigned for extremist thinking.
“Whenever there is an incident of terror and suicide attack, I can clearly declare the perpetrators who kill innocent people as non-Afghans,” he said.
He said the government was committed to defending the national interests and maintaining security of people when threatened by terrorists.
Recently, a Kabul University lecturer was arrested by intelligence officials on the charge of promoting extremist ideas.
Osmani said his ministry could play a crucial role in fighting extremism and campaigning for Islamic justice as a top priority.
