New Gardez mayor takes charge, vows better services
GARDEZ (Pajhwok): The newly-appointed mayor for Gardez, the provincial capital of southeastern Paktia province, on Tuesday took charge, vowing to increase the municipality's revenue and provide better services to citizens.
Ismatullah Khalid, speaking at his introductory gathering here, said he had an organised plan to improve service delivery to Gardez dwellers.
“I have good plans to increase revenue and clean the city and the plans will be implemented in a timely manner,” the mayor said, stressing need for people’s cooperation in implementing his plans.
He said only 20 percent of shops had been issued licenses, but he would issue work permits to all shops in the city in order to increase the municipality’s revenue.
A member of the provincial council, Taj Mohammad Mangal, said no attention had been paid to Gardez over the past few years.
“The roads are in a bad condition and other facilities have not been provided to people,” the public representative said, adding if the new mayor provided better services, all residents of the province would cooperate with him.
