3 policemen killed in insider attack in Ghazni
GHAZNI CITY (Pajhwok): A policeman killed his three colleagues in what appeared to be an insider attack in southern Ghazni province, where 40 militants were eliminated during an operation, officials said on Saturday.
Provincial police chief Brig. Gen. Aminullah Amarkhel told a news conference that the insider attack took in Deh Khudaidad area on the outskirts of Ghazni City, the provincial capital, on Friday night.
“The policeman had links with Taliban and he committed the crime during a patrol,” he said.
Amarkhel did not say if the rogue policeman took away weapons and ammunition from his slain colleagues.
The Taliban also confirmed the incident. The group’s spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, claimed one of their fighters, who had joined the police, killed four policemen and took away a corolla car and a number of weapons.
Elsewhere in the province, 40 militants, including three commanders, were killed during an operation on the outskirts of Ghazni City and Maqur district of the province.
Mohammad Hanif Rezai, the 203rd Thunder Military Corps spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News another 26 militants were wounded in two days of the operation wrapped up on Saturday.
He said the operation was aimed at clearing Ghazni City and the Kandahar-Kabul highway of militants.
Mohammad Ibrahim, a resident of Noghi area of Ghazni city, said the both sides suffered casualties during clashes in the area during the past two days. He said local residents had seen bodies of two Afghan soldiers killed during the clashes.
Zabihullah Mujahid confirmed the clashes and said 14 security personnel were killed in Noghi area, a claim rejected by Ghazni security officials.
