52 killed, 73 injured as 2 buses, tanker collide in Ghazni
GHAZNI CITY (Pajhwok): Fifty-two people, including women and children, were killed and another 73 wounded on Sunday when two buses and a fuel tanker collided in southern Ghazni province, an official said.
Mohammadullah Ahmadi, the Ghazni traffic department head, told Pajhwok Afghan News the accident happened in Larma area of Maqur district when two 303 public transport buses crashed into a tanker.
He said the crash set all the three vehicles ablaze and some corpses were still trapped in the wreckage.
Governor’s spokesman Javed Salangi said 125 passengers on the two buses. The injured had been evacuated to hospital with some in critical condition, he added.
Ghazni police chief Brig. Gen. Aminullah Amarkhel confirmed the fatalities and said rescue team had reached the area.
The accident took place on the Kabul-Kandahar highway at about 7am and the buses were travelling one behind the other when they crashed into the tanker.
