KABUL (Pajhwok): Dozens of Afghans on Monday staged a protest demonstration in the Belgium capital, Brussels, against the ongoing war in Afghanistan.

The anti-war demonstration was organised by Khudai Khidmatgar group in Afghanistan.

The group’s leader in Belgium, Shan Bacha Shinwari, told Pajhwok Afghan News over the telephone that they carried out the protest rally in connection with the International Day of Non-Violence.

He said a large number of Afghan living in Belgium took part in the demonstration and chanted anti-war and pro-peace slogans.

He said the demonstrators first gathered in front of the European Parliament in Brussels and chanted anti-war slogans and then went on to protest in front of the NATO headquarters.

Chanting anti-war and pro-peace slogans, the protestors and handed over a resolution letter to the NATO headquarters.

In the letter, the protestors had demanded an end to the war in Afghanistan and Iran’s and Pakistan’s interferences in the war-torn country.

Through their protest, Shinwari, said they wanted to convey their message to the world. “The ongoing war in Afghanistan is a proxy war, but its victims are the Afghans. The Afghans should no longer be killed for the benefits of others.”

Shinwari criticised the US and other western countries for giving hundreds of millions of dollars in aid to Pakistan while the Afghans were bearing the brunt of the international war on terrorism.

He said they would continue their protests in various European countries until the international community imposes sanctions on Pakistan and Iran.
