Former PM Gilani’s son handed over to Pakistani officials
KABUL (Pajhwok): Ali Haider Ali Gilani, son of former prime minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, was handed over to senior Pakistani officials in Kabul on Wednesday, a day after he was rescued during a joint operation by Afghan and US special forces.
The handover ceremony was held at the Ministry of Defense, attended by top Afghan officials and the Pakistani ambassador to Afghanistan. The rescued man, sporting a long beard, was driven to the airport, where he would embark on a Pakistan Air Force plane.
Ali Haider was rescued on Tuesday during a raid by US Special Operations Forces and Afghan commandos in the Giyan district of southeastern Paktika province. The mission was planned and launched after evidence of terrorist activity was confirmed.”
A special aircraft left Islamabad for Kabul to fly back home Ali Haider.Senior protocol officials of Foreign Office and brother of Ali Haider came to Kabul to bring him home.Haider was running for a provincial assembly seat from Multan when he was kidnapped on May 9, 2013.
