Residents want security strengthened on Jawzjan-Sar-i-Pul road
SHIBERGHAN (Pajhwok): Some residents of northern Jawzjan province on Wednesday demanded the establishment of more security check-posts on the Shiberghan-Sar-i-Pul highway and the elimination of terrorists from the region.
Abdul Ghafar, an inhabitant of Jegdalek village, expressed delight over the improved law and order situation in his locality along the highway and said they witnessed peace after clearing operations in the area.
He said Taliban used to enter civilians’ homes and fire at security forces. Ghafar asked the government to establish check posts in order to prevent such incidents in future.
Ainuddin, a resident of Mangoti village along the highway, said security forces treated them properly and demanded the government maintain security and resolve problems concerning social, economic, health, education and transport affairs.
Governor Maulvi Lotfullah Azizi asked residents to cooperate with security forces and assured them that no area would fall to rebels anymore. Asphalting the Shiberghan-Sar-i-Pul highway would be started in near future, he assured.
Earlier, First-Vice President Gen. Abdul Rashid Dostum spearheaded an offensive on the highway and purged the route from rebels.
