CASA-1000 project to spur regional cooperation: CEO
KABUL (Pajhwok): Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr. Abdullah Abdullahon Thursday hoped execution of the CASA-1000 power project through Afghanistan would pave the ground for greater economic relations among regional countries.
Addressing the inaugural ceremony for the project in Tajikistan, Abdullah said the mega project’slaunch sent a positive message to the region and the world at large.Despite many challenges including terrorism, he said, regional states had decisive plans for economic developments.
Abdullah added Afghanistan, Tajikistan and Kazakhstan were landlocked countries that were in need of greater regional cooperation, as well as exploitation of available resources to boost their economies. Regional cooperation was the best option to pursue, he believed.
“Afghanistan has a special position that enables regional connectivity, a fact that could not be denied. Afghanistan would attract more support from foreign countries for further improving its relations with regional states,” the CEO said.
He welcomed power supply from Kazakhstan and Tajikistan to Pakistan, saying the project would create more economic opportunities besides strengthening relations among the neighbouring countries.
Converting Afghanistan into a bridge among Central Asian, Southern Asian and Middle Easterncountries was part of the national unity government’s foreign policy, Abdullah concluded.
