Ghani to Europe: Absorb refugees, appreciate Afghanistan’s problems
He made the remarks at a meeting with British Prime Minister David Cameron after the Anti-Corruption Summit in London, the president’s office said on Friday.
The Afghan peace process, the war on graft and terrorism, as well as the tragedy of refugees figured at Thursday’s meeting, the Presidential Palace said in a statement.
While asking Europe to absorb refugees, Ghani said: “We are trying to create development opportunities so as to prevent our people leaving their country.”
Cameron promised the UK would support Afghanistan’s Military Academy till 2020 and beyond. He also assured the president of continued British cooperation in training Afghan security forces.
Until 2020, the prime minister said, the UK would provide Afghan forces $100 million annually. The refugee crisis was an important issue for Europe, Cameron concluded.
