Flash floods hit Kohistanat, leaving 24 dead & 36 injured
KABUL (Pajhwok): At least 24 people were killed and 36 went missing as a result of flash floods in the Kohistanat district of northern Sar-i-Pul province on Wednesday, an official said.
The rain-induced floods, which gushed into different parts of the district early in the morning washed away 200 houses, Kohistanat’s Executive Officer Mullah Zulfiqar told Pajhwok Afghan News.
He said residents of the district had suffered heavy losses due to the natural disaster. He added 17 corpses had been recovered and a search for other missing people was underway.
Zulfiqar blamed government officials could not venture into the restive areas because of an insurgent presence there.
Dr. Mohammad Qaem, deputy director of the Kohistanat Hospital, said a team of doctors had been dispatched to the area to help the injured people.
