Afghan-Pakistan trust key to peace in region: Abdullah Waheed
PESHAWAR (Pajhwok):Islamabad and Kabul need to make determined efforts for lasting peace and stability in the region, an Afghan diplomat has said, calling for sustained dialogue between the neighbours.
Afghan Counsel General Dr. Abdullah Waheed told participants of an event at the Peshawar Press Club on Thursday that his country earnestly desired peaceful and cordial relations with Pakistan.
Peace would remain elusive in South Asia unless both countries paved the ground for mutual understanding on issues of common interest, he told the conference organised by the Pak-Afghan People’s Forum
“There is an urgent need for creating an environment of mutual understanding and confidence, where both countries discuss prospects of peace,” he remarked, saying peace must be given a fair chance.
Justice (retd) Khalid Mehmood, who chaired the conference, called the Pak-Afghan region a gateway to international trade. Peace could not prevail in region without sincere efforts by international powers.
