Peace be given chance before action against Taliban: Pakistan
PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Pakistan says it has undertaken non-discriminatory military action in the North Waziristan tribal region near the Afghanistan border and its sincerity could not be doubted in the fight against terrorism.
“Doubting Pakistan’s intention is not only wrong, but it also strengthens the elements that don’t want to see peace in Afghanistan,” the Foreign Office spokesman told a regular media briefing in Islamabad on Thursday.
On Kabul’s demand for military action against the Taliban, Nafees Zakaria said the main message of the joint statement issued after the Quadrilateral Coordination Group (QCG) meeting was that “we will have to give peace a chance through negotiations.”
He also welcomed the preliminary peace deal between Kabul and the Hezb-e-Islami Afghanistan (HIA) group, led by Gulbadin Hekmatyar. Negotiations were the only way to bring peace and stability to that country, he observed.
