KABUL on Tuesday panned the Ministry of Urban Development (MoUD) for a delay in distribution of Khwaja Rawash Township apartments to owners.

Farhad Sakhi, first deputy chairman, saidhundreds of people, despite payingprices of apartments in the Khwaja Rawash Township in Kabul, were yet to get the houses they had purchased.

“Construction work on the township was launched in 2012 and the MoUD was supposed to hand over apartments to their owners in 2015. But the ministry is yet to keep its promise,” he alleged.

He said many owners were government officials, who had sold vehicles, lands, homes and gold, and some obtained loans from banks to purchase the apartments. He added the township had 77 blocks with 1077 apartments.

Gulalai Akbari, another senator, also lashed out at the MoUD and lamented the people, who had purchased the apartmentsyears ago, were presently living in rented houses.

Based on public complaints, the Senate’s Telecommunication Commission has asked the minister several times for explanation but he refused to turn up. The ministry did not bother sending anyone to the house, she regretted.

She requested the house administrative board to summon the minister during next week’s sessions to update senators on the issue.

Senate ChairmanFazal Hadi Muslimyaracknowledged people’s concerns and promised summoning Syed Sadaat Mansoor Naderi, the minister concerned, next week.

He said no excuse was acceptable to the house for a halt to construction work on the township or a delayin distribution of apartments.
