11 killed in Taliban suicide attack on court workers

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): At least 11 people were killed and eight others wounded in a suicide attack on a bus carrying court employees in Kabul on Wednesday morning, an official said.

Col. Faridoon Obaidi, the crime branch chief for the 101st Asmayee Zone, said the suicide bombing took place near Bagh-i-Daud in the limits of 5th police district at around 8:30am.

He said all victims were workers of the appellant court of central Maidan Wardak province. The perpetrators wanted to create fear and terror among the people, he believed.

EyewitnessToryalaitold Pajhwok Afghan News a young man, selling soup on his handcart, was also killed in the incident. Two other shopkeepers were injured in the attack, he said.

“I was near in the area when a heavy explosion happened. Smoke and dust rose from the scene. I immediately phone police and informed them about the incident,” the witness added.

As usual, the Talibaninfo-icon claimed responsibility for the attack. The group’s spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid said 22 judges and prosecutors had suffered casualties in the suicide attack.

The attack came as the insurgents warned of seeking revenge for the six Taliban and Haqqani Networkinfo-icon members executed by the government. The men accused of terrorist activities were hanged on May 8.
