Senior advisor to Paktika governor detained
SHARANA (Pajhwok): Intelligence officials on Thursday detained an advisor to the governor of southeastern Paktika province for collecting money from government departments in the name of the governor.
A reliable source at the National Directorate of Security (NDS) in Paktika told Pajhwok Afghan News that intelligence officials caught Azimi, a senior advisor to the governor, red-handed collecting money from government organizations.
During the arrest of the advisor besides NDS officials, members of the prosecutor’s office and court representatives were present, the source said, adding Azimi had earlier also collected money for the governor and had been chased by NDS agents.
Meanwhile, a source at the governor’s office confirmed the arrest of Azimi but didn’t provide further details.
However, Governor Aminullah Sharaq told Pajhwok in a telephonic conversation that he was in Kabul right now and had been busy meeting NDS and Ministry of Defence officials.
“I just became free and this is the first call I picked up, I am not aware of the issue (Azimi’s arrest).”
The NDS had earlier detained two senior government officials and several other officials on corruption charges in the province.
