Blockade of some Kabul roads created problems for commuters
KABUL (Pajhwok): The residents of capital Kabul on Friday complained against the blockade of a number of roads saying they had been facing multiple problmes while moveing from one place to another, but security officials said blocking some roads were aimed at better security.
According to the residents besides the blockage of some vital roads for security reasons, some main roads of public transportation had been blocked due to the movement of key government officials for hours.
Aziz Rahman, a resident of Kabul city said that threats of some opportunists should not cause to block public and busy roads.
He said President Ashraf Ghani during his presidential campaign in 2014 had promised he would not let any roads blocked for government officials’ security while going to their offices.
Also a government officer, Rahman was waiting in Pul-I-Mahmod Khan area for opening of the road to go to Kabul Market and shop his needs.
“We have only Friday weekend and should shop all our needs for one week today, but the blockade of roads has created problems for us,” he said.
Abdur Raouf, a shopkeeper in Jamhoriat Market, said that he was not allowed by security forces to open his shop without any reason.
Closure of shops affects shopkeepers’ economic and would no longer shop their goods during Fridays, he said, adding closure of shops for one day discourages customers for several days not go to for shopping.
Blockade of roads also affected taxi drivers.
Fawad, a taxi driver in Kabul city said, “Blockade of roads affect us, we are passing long distances and streets to go from one to another part of the city,”
He said the government should pay attention to the issue and do not block roads for small reasons and create fear among people.
However, a traffic officer, Naqibullah in Kabul city said that only Deh Afghanan ring road, Pashtunistan square and Gulbahar roads were blocked for security reasons.
Meanwhile, Basir Ahmad Mujahid, spokesman for 101st Police Asmayee Zone said that some raods were temporarly blocked for better security measures.
Kabul residents in the past too had complained about road blockades. They said some busy roads were usually blocked whenever a security threat reported or some important conferences were underway.
