Day-long women’s handicrafts show held in Kabul
The one-day show, an initiative by an NGO named ‘Women Community’ was opened in Kolola Pushta neighbourhood of the city.
Fatana Gilani, the NGO’s head, said the expo involved 50 women who underwent literacy and handicraft training courses three years back.
She said the women were able to show their art and handicrafts. Ladies and gents suits, beaded and embroidered panels, purses, table clothes and some traditional foods and sweets were on the display at the expo.
Gilani said such events could play a significant role in increasing women’s self-confidence and help them become economically self-sufficient.
She asked the government to seriously consider issues women faced in spheres of economy and security.
Farida, one of the craftswomen, said such exhibitions could help women sell their handicrafts and asked the government to establish a special market for women-made products in Kabul.
