Pakistani diplomat summoned over Peshawar incident
The Afghan consulate in Pakistan’s northwestern city of Peshawar has been closed as a mark of protest against the search of the consul-general’s vehicle on Tuesday morning.
A statement from the MoFA said Moazam Ali Asar was summoned by the ministry on Wednesday afternoon regarding the incident.
The MFA strongly protested the search of Consul General Dr. Abdullah Waheed Poyan’s vehicle and discussed the issue with the Pakistani diplomat.
Musa Arifi, first political branch chief at the MoFA, during his meeting with Asar, condemned the incident and termed it as against international diplomatic norms and conventions.
Arifi, while concerned about the incident, said such behavior would affect ties between the two countries and said a repetition of such acts should be prevented in future.
During the meeting, the Pakistani diplomat was presented a note of protest regarding the incident.
The Pakistani chargé d'affaires said he would convey the note and Afghanistan’s concern about the incident to the authorities in his country.
