40 police rescued from Taliban siege in Nimroz
ZARANJ (Pajhwok): Forty policemen besieged by Taliban militants in Khashrud district of southwestern Nimroz province have been rescued, an official said on Saturday.
The district police chief, Col. Eid Mohammad, told Pajhwok Afghan News one policeman and six Taliban gunmen were killed during a clash to rescue the besieged security officials on Friday evening in Razi Baloch locality. Three more policemen were wounded during the clash.
Provincial police chief Brig. Gen. Ghulam Jilani said security reinforcements had been dispatched to the area to rescue the besieged police officials.
Taliban spokesman Qari Yousaf Ahmadi claimed scores of policemen had been killed and their three vehicles destroyed during the clash. The Taliban fighters also captured some weapons and ammunition, he added.
