Kabul lawmaker killed, 11 hurt in landmine explosion

KABULinfo-icon CITY (Pajhwok): A Wolesi Jirgainfo-icon member from Kabul was killed and 11 others wounded in a landmine explosion in the central capital on Sunday, the Minister of Interior (MoI) said.

MoI spokesman Sediq Sediqi tweeted lawmaker Sher Wali Wardak was killed in the blast in the afternoon. He said all security organs had been directed to investigate the incident.

Earlier, a security official told Pajhwok Afghan News the explosion took place at around 5:00pm in Qambar Square area in the limits of the 5th police district.

Sher Wali Wardak, a lower house member from Kabul, his two bodyguards and three policemen were wounded in the explosion, the source said, adding  Wardak was evacuated to a nearby hospital.

A member of Wardak’s family, who wished to go unnamed, told Pajhwok Afghan News the explosion took place in front of the lawmaker’s house and he suffered minor injuries.

Talibaninfo-icon claimed reposnility for the explosion.
