Peace body urges ceasefire during Ramadan
A statement from the HPC Secretariat said Ramadan was the month of brotherhood, equality, acceptance of each other, forgiving and worship to God.
The body, tasked with negotiating peace with insurgent group, said in the absence of peace and security, the people could not worship with concentration and ease and therefore peace and stability was essential to worship.
Keeping in view hopes of Afghans for durable peace, the HPC said it was once again calling on the parties to the conflict, particularly insurgents, to avoid all kinds of violence in respect to the holy month of Ramadan in order to enable the worshippers to offer prayers in a peaceful environment.
It also urged the Taliban to ensure that the month of Ramazan was free of violence and they should come to direct intra-Afghan dialogue with full commitment.
The HPC said it believed a complete, general and durable peace in Afghanistan was linked to serious cooperation of the Afghanistan people, religious scholars, tribal elders, civil society, women’s and youth networks and the armed opponents.
The HPC insisted on cooperation from all segments of the society in achieving peace and stability in the country.
