Samangan flood-affected families receive cash aid
AIBAK (Pajhwok): The Afghanistan Natural Disaster Management Authority (ANDMA) on Tuesday distributed nearly 2.8 million afghanis to 158 flood-affected families in northern Samangan province, an official said.
The provincial office of ANDMA said 158 houses were destroyed and 1,017 other partially damaged by floods in Hazrat Sultan district in May 2016.
Rajab Ali Yousafi, ANDMA director for Samangan, told Pajhwok Afghan News each of the 158 families received 15,000 afghanis in cash assistance.
Mohammad Afzal 55, a resident of Zhwandon valley of Aibak who was affected by the floods, said he was happy with compensation.
He recalled flood victims in Uruzgan province had received food and non-food aid in the past, but the shelterless individuals needed more help.
He appealed to national and international aid organisations to help the affected people reconstruct their houses at the earliest.
