3 women of a family drown in Aibak River; man rescued
AIBAK (Pajhwok): Three women of a family drowned in the Aibak River in the capital of northern Samangan province, an official said on Thursday.
Ahmad, a doctor at the emergency department of the Samangan Civil Hospital, told Pajhwok Afghan News the bodies of the women were brought to the hospital late on Wednesday.
Abdul Khyber, a resident of the Karta-i-Sulh area of Aibak, the provincial capital, claiming rescuing one of the four members of the hapless family who drowned in the river.
He said the incident took place when one a 16-year-old girl tried to take out a shoe from the river. But she drowned after being hit by strong waves, Khyber added.
A second woman aged 20 tried to rescue her sister, but she also drowned. The third woman who tried to save her two sisters-in-law met fate a similar fate, the resident said.
Later, a man from the family tried to save his three relatives but failed. Khyber said he knew how to swim and was able to rescue the man, who was about to die.
