9 Afghan soldiers killed in Nimroz rebel attack
ZARANJ (Pajhwok): Nine Afghan army soldiers were killed and five others wounded during a Taliban attack on their post in southwestern Nimroz province on Tuesday morning, an official said.
The official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, told Pajhwok Afghan News the attack took place in Shesh Ab area of Khashrud district. He said the Taliban also captured weapons and ammunition from the post and torched it.
He said the Taliban had also suffered casualties but exact figures were not known. The official suspected insider’s involvement. He said the injured troops, some in critical condition, had been shifted to the district health clinic.
Additional security forces had reached the scene and the situation was now under control, the security official said.
Taliban spokesman Qari Yousaf Ahmadi said the fighters had captured a military post in the Khashrud and killed the post commander among 12 soldiers. He said the fighters also captured six weapons. He acknowledged the killing of one fighter in the clash.
