Taliban blamed for shooting development council head
PUL-I-ALAM (Pajhwok): Officials in central Logar province on Wednesday blamed the Taliban for shooting Haji Naeem, head of the development council for Charkh district. But the rebels rejected the claim as groundless.
Salim Saleh, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News the insurgents shot dead Haji Naeem Tuesday night when he was going home from the mosque. No arrest has been made in connection with the killing.
The official pointed an accusing finger at the Taliban, who have long targeted administration officials and pro-government tribal elders.
Mubarak Shah, a resident of the locality said Naeem was gunned down at 9:00pm. He hailed the development council head as a decent person dedicated to public service.
The Taliban, meanwhile, denied killing Naeem, The group’s spokesman ZabihullahMujahid said: “We got news that someone by the name of Haji Naeem has been killed. The Taliban were not involved.”
