8 Taliban killed, 10 wounded in Logar firefight

Logar deputy police chief Col. Nisar Ahmad Abdulrahimzai told Pajhwok Afghan News the insurgents attacked Sari Sang security post on the outskirts of Pul-i-Alam, the provincial capital, at about 4am.
He said the ensuing clash lasted an hour and resulted in the killing of eight attackers and injuring of 10 more. He said the security forces and civilians stayed unhurt during the firefight.
Abdulrahimzai said the security forces also confiscated one vehicle, one rocket launcher, one Kalashnikov and two walkie-talkies from the attackers.
Mohammad Nasir, a resident of Alwizo area, where the clash took place, said: “A fierce clash broke out after sehri (pre-dawn meal) and then no one could sleep due to fear.”

The Taliban have said nothing about the clash, but their spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid on his Twitter page claimed the fighters had inflicted casualties on Afghan National Army troops in Barak-i-Barak district of Logar.
Local officials in Logar say nearly 40 Taliban militants have been killed during the past one week in various areas of the province and scores of others wounded.
