Child dead, 3 wounded as ANA, Taliban clash in Khost
KHOST CITY (Pajhwok): A child was killed and another three civilians, including a woman, were wounded during a clash between the Afghan National Army (ANA) and Taliban insurgents in southeastern Khost province, the ANA said.
A statement from the ANA’s 1st Ground Brigade in the province said the clash erupted when the insurgents using heavy and light weapons stormed the brigade’s headquarters in the Sabari district.
During the clash which lasted an hour a child died and a woman was wounded when a mortar shell hit their house, the source added.
Another civilian and an ANA soldier also sustained injuries during the clash, said the statement that said nothing about Taliban casualties.
A resident of the area, Naseemullah, told Pajhwok Afghan News they heard light and heavy weapons fire on Saturday morning, but he had no information about casualties.
ANA officials said the mortar had been fired by the Taliban but there has been no word from the group regarding the clash.
