Taliban military in-charge detained in Baghlan
PUL-I-KHUMRI/ MAIMANA (Pajhwok): Taliban’s military in-charge for northern Baghlan province was detained on Sunday from a police vehicle carrying him for treatment to Kabul, the Ministry of Interior (MoI) said.
A MoI statement to Pajhwok Afghan News said Qari Zahir, who was wounded during recent security operations in Chashmai Sheer locality of Baghlan, was detained on Sunday while being evacuated to Kabul for treatment.
Two policemen accompanying Zahir in the police vehicle were also detained.
The ministry said the Taliban key person had an active role in planning and directing terrorist actions in Baghlan.
Safdar Mohsini, head of Baghlan Provincial Council, said the notorious Taliban military in-charge was detained by security forces in Khenjan district of Baghlan.
Mohsini said they had informed the government about the existence of some traitors in government organizations, but the government did not pay attention.
He insisted the government should expose spies cooperating with the Taliban.
The public representative did not name the detained police officers, but local residents said the vehicle belonged to Maidan Wardak police chief Khalil Andarabi. Andarabi has not yet commented on the incident.
Separately, a tribal elder was killed and four children wounded in two separate incidents in Sherin Tagab district of northern Faryab province.
Sherin Tagab district chief Syed Luqman Gahreek said Taliban took away Habibulla, a tribal elder, from his house and prayed him with bullets near Shash Tapa school. The motive behind his murder was not immediately known.
The district police chief, Col. Mohammad Nasim said four children were wounded when a rocket shell exploded.
